The symptoms and complaints in Dry Eyes are manifold and different: dryness, foreign body sensation, gritty sandy feeling and eye rubbing, sticky eyes, glued eyes, redness, etc. This can lead to 'tired eyes' and 'heavy lids' with a feeling of pressure and pain => here is all of this explained in more detail.

Often the constant irritation of the eye can also lead to episodes of a wet eye with tears running down the cheeks.

This is a defense reaction of the eye, but the ´stress tears´ consist mainly of water with little lubricating and healing effects.

Visual disturbances can occur in dry eyes because the tear film is important for the refraction of light and thus for clear vision.

  • Blurred vision or foggy vision improve after a few eyelid strokes when a new smooth tear film is spread. Glare sensitivity and photophobia may also occur.

  • An examination at the ophthalmologist can show whether these symptoms are indeed related to dry eyes.

If the disease progresses, chronic pain can occur.
