PURE Oil / Lipid Supplementation
Oil supplementation is of enormous importance for the dry eye , since an oil deficiency is the most important primary cause of the dry eye in the vast majority of patients (approx. 4 out of 5).
If the protective oil layer on the tear film is missing, this leads to a rapid evaporation of the tear water. This can result in a dry eye, although the lacrimal gland actually still forms enough water.
Blockage / obstruction of the meibomian glands in the eyelids is usually the cause of the oil deficiency. A physical eyelid margin therapy - however, this therapy is lengthy and often does not lead to immediate noticeable improvements.
If there is a lack of oil, replacing the missing oil often leads to a noticeable improvement immediately
With advanced dry eyes
Often, the tear water must also be replaced by appropriate aqueous eye drops .
Then combined aqueous tear substitutes with oil can also make sense.
With liposomal spray there is also the advantage that it is sprayed on the closed eye and still finds its way onto the tear film. This makes the application much easier for many patients than 'aiming' the opened eye with a dropper bottle.
If a serious lack of oil is suspected, a liposomal spray can be sprayed on to test whether the symptoms then improve.
