A family of different tear supplements based on the water-binding substance hydroxypropyl-guar (HP-guar) is offered under the name Systane. HP-Guar is a natural vegetable sugar that creates a viscoelastic high-tech matrix. As a result, Systane enables moisturization and surface protection of the irritated surface of the eye in dry eyes.
In conjunction with other water-binding molecules such as hyaluronic acid and the addition of lipids, this results in a range of innovative products for the staggered therapy of all severity degrees of of dry eye disease. Dry Eyes often have an oil deficiency due to the frequent meibomian gland dysfunction (MGD) with clogging of the oil glands in the eyelids - this is actually regarded as the main cause of Dry Eye Disease.
The Systane tear supplements are offered in a small drop-tainer bottle, which makes it easier to dispense one sterile drop at a time, and is also available in single-unit dose containers (UD) - both without preservatives.
