Aqueous tear substitutes with hyaluronic acid - low viscosity for day time

On this page you will find:

Vismed is based on the body's own water-binding molecule, hyaluronic acid, with many useful properties.

The therapy of choice for dry eye

Tired, burning, scratchy or watery eyes ?

Eye drops with hyaluronic acid can alleviate your discomfort!

A lack of hyaluronic acid often leads to considerable discomfort!

Hyaluronic acid is an endogenous substance that occurs in humans wherever moisture needs to be stored. Examples of this are the vitreous humor of the eye and the tear film.

Hyaluronic acid can absorb and store moisture in large quantities and be a placeholder, lubricant, but also a transport medium for nutrients.

With their special physical and chemical properties, hyaluronic acid solutions are similar to natural tear fluid. They are therefore very popular in ophthalmology to treat dry eyes.

TRB CHEMEDICA has made it its principle to simply replace the missing endogenous hyaluronic acid with bio-engineered hyaluronic acid and in this way to alleviate the symptoms.

Different viscosity serves for different purpose:

Vismed® - the classic.

VISMED® is a unique product that has been developed specifically for the treatment of sensations of ocular dryness, or dry eye. It is presented as lubricant eye drops in 2 ways:

Boxes of 20 preservative-free, sterile single dose units, or 10ml preservative-free multi-dose system (please click here for more information on VISMED®)

VISMED® is a hypotonic aqueous solution of sodium hyaluronate (SH) which contains a number of important ions also found in natural tears, and, as such, is very close in characteristics to the natural tear film.

The inclusion of both SH and essential ions in VISMED® is possible because of its unique patented formulation with citrate.

With this special formulation, VISMED® offers patients with sensations of ocular dryness an unmatched combination of symptomatic relief and comfort.

Patients:

VISMED® is suitable for all types of contact lenses. It can be bought over-the-counter (OTC) in a pharmacy, at the opticians, or online - just click on the "Buy Online" button. It is also available on the NHS and can be prescribed by a GP or other clinician.

Available as a multi-dose container / sterile dispenser (OSD dosing system) with 10 ml without preservatives.

VISMED® MULTI is identical with the classic version of VISMED® (single-dose vials), but is presented in an intuitive preservative- free multidose dispenser. The bottle is precise and has a reproducible drop delivery system in an easily squeezable soft polymer container.

This practical bottle is simple to use and can be kept for 3 months after opening, which makes VISMED® MULTI economical to use without losing the benefits of VISMED®.

VISMED® MULTI is preservative-free and easy to use. It contains 10ml of VISMED® which is the equivalent to 30 monodose units - around 250 drops of 0.18% sodium hyaluronate. The bottle will remain sterile for up to 3 months after first use.

HYALURONIC ACID

Hyaluronic acid can absorb and store moisture in large quantities and be a placeholder, lubricant, but also a transport medium for nutrients.

With their special physical and chemical properties, hyaluronic acid solutions are similar to natural tear fluid. They are therefore very popular in ophthalmology to treat dry eyes.

Hyaluronic acid occurs everywhere in the body where the lubrication and protection of tissues and especially of joint surfaces is essential:

For example, high concentrations of hyaluronic acid are not only found in the joint, but also in the vitreous humor or in the aqueous humor.

Water retentionHyaluronic acid is a long-chain glycosamine glycan made up of the molecules glucuric acid and N-acetylglucosamine. Hyaluronic acid binds water molecules, which results in important functions.

ViscoelasticityHyaluronic acid is also viscoelastic when mixed with water: when at rest it forms a moisturizing layer on the eye and can reduce the mechanical friction between the eyelid and the eyeball when you blink.

Viscoelasticity

The special chemical-physical properties of hyaluronic acid explain its diverse uses in nature, among other things as a coating, lubricant, shock absorber or form stabilizer.

Hyaluronic acid combines all the necessary properties for an excellent moisturizer for the surface of the eye and hyaluronic acid gel has been used successfully in eye surgery for years.

Electrolytes and ions

In addition to hyaluronic acid to bind water, the tear substitutes also contain important ions that are present in natural tears in physiological concentrations:

Calcium and magnesium play a role in cell adhesion, cell organization and cellular transport. Potassium maintains the thickness of the cornea.

Viscoelasticity

Hyaluronic acid combines the physical characteristics of elastic solids with those of viscous liquids, ie it is viscoelastic as well as a mixture of hyaluronic acid and water is viscoelastic.

As a result, it forms a moisturizing layer on the eye with clumped hyaluronic acid molecules and high viscosity (flow heaviness / ´thickness´). When moving, like blinking the eye, the molecules get stuck and the viscosity decreases - this reduces the mechanical friction between the eyelid and the eyeball. Because of this useful property, hyaluronic acid solutions are also called ´Non-Newtonian solutions ´
